DEGREE PROGRAMS FOR: AFRICAN AMERICAN STUDIES

OBJECTIVE

This minor is an interdisciplinary program of study which provides all students the opportunity to study the history, ideology and culture of the African American experience. Courses focus on African American heritage and the many contemporary issues concerning African Americans today. The minor includes courses in the humanities and social sciences, and is designed to provide a holistic background concerning the rich cultural heritage and contributions of African Americans.

The minor is housed in the Ethnic and Cultural Studies Program coordinated through the Sociology Department. Students interested in pursuing the minor should consult with the Ethnic and Cultural Studies Director or the African American Studies Coordinator.
