Department of Aviation and Transportation Studies

Thank you for visiting the Lewis Aviation Web site. Lewis has a rich tradition of aviation education. Founded in 1932, Lewis University began as a technical school for boys. Aviation technology courses (a new technology at the time), were the special emphasis of instruction, becoming the origin of today’s Department of Aviation. In 1942, the School was temporarily closed and became a flight training facility for the U.S. Navy during WWII.

Aviation majors at Lewis can choose from the following: Air Traffic Control, Aviation Administration, Aviation Flight, and Aviation Maintenance. Other programs have been developed in Aviation Security (B.S.) and Aviation and Transportation (M.S.).

Air Traffic Controller ProgramA degree in Air Traffic Control Management will provide students with fundamental air traffic controller knowledge and technical understanding through classroom instruction and laboratory simulations. The academic curriculum provides exposure to the procedures and operations consistent within the FAA air traffic facilities. Students will gain a foundation designated by the FAA for eventual entry into the FAA Academy, where they will complete their air traffic control training.

A degree in Aviation Administration can open up many opportunities in the area of aviation management. You could work for an airline, cargo company, fixed-base operator, airport or even a governmental agency.

A degree in Aviation Flight can provide opportunities flying for general aviation, corporate aviation, commuter airline, the major airlines or a cargo carrier.

Training in Aircraft Maintenance can not only lead to career opportunities in all areas of aviation, but in many related mechanical areas. We have one of the finest programs available and hope you will consider visiting our campus and aviation facility.
