Notes:

(1) A comprehensive examination is required to affirm understanding by the student and to confirm to the Department and the University that learning has occurred. The examination will require written and/or oral responses to questions approved by the Department Chair. The examination should not be scheduled before the student has completed at least 30 semester hours but should be scheduled before the student begins the capstone experience. It is recommended that the examination be taken in the student’s penultimate semester.

(2) Students would be allowed to transfer in up to 6 semester hours of credit from other graduate programs or demonstrated prior graduate-level learning.

The following conditions apply to the acceptance of university transfer credit.

  • Only courses with a grade of B or better will be accepted.
  • Coursework must have been completed at an accredited graduate school.
  • Appropriateness of coursework will be decided by the graduate program director at the time of the student’s application to the program.


Credit will be granted for graduate-level learning from experience the student is able to demonstrate and document in a prior learning portfolio. The credit request must be approved by the program director, the Department Chair and the Dean.
(3) Courses would be offered in eight-week time frame.
