Scaffolding Student Learning Series:

Have you ever noticed that students are frustrated with the learning experiences you’ve designed for your classroom or are students not meeting your learning objectives? Scaffolding is a style of instruction that provides temporary support to help students understand and develop their thinking on instructional tasks. Scaffolding, also known as modeling or coaching, can take many forms such as presenting examples, giving explanations, and using advanced organizers, all which gain from students’ existing knowledge of the material. This workshop series will cover the principles of scaffolding, ways scaffolding can be used in the classroom, backward design, and scaffolding assignments design.

The workshop series include the following topics:

  • Jan 15, 1-2:30 p.m.. -  Explore the Theory and Practice of Scaffolding
  • Jan 21, 10-11:30 a.m - Backward Design – A “Forward-looking” Approach to Effective Teaching
  • Jan 30, 10-Noon - . Designing Scaffolding Assignments (hands-on)

  • Feb 5, 10-11:30 a.m.. -  Explore the Theory and Practice of Scaffolding
  • Feb 14, 1-2:30 p.m. - Backward Design – A “Forward-looking” Approach to Effective Teaching
  • Feb. 21, 10 a.m.-Noon - . Designing Scaffolding Assignments (hands-on)
